Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius Appointed to Governing Board
(February 08, 2008) Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has been appointed as a member of the National Assessment Governing Board by U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings.
Gov. Sebelius is the newest member of the bipartisan and independent Governing Board, a 26-member panel that sets policy for NAEP, otherwise known as The Nation's Report Card.
Sebelius, Democratic governor of Kansas since 2003, has made improving public education a priority of her administration. Secretary Spellings stated that the governor brings "a hearty zest for educational excellence" to the Governing Board.
Gov. Sebelius served as a state representative for eight years and as the elected insurance commissioner of Kansas for eight years before becoming governor.
